I wanted a Stanley life two purposes - Opening /dismantling cardboard boxes from deliveries and scoring pork rinds when making crackling pork. So far I've only been doing the former. The pork will have to wait.
The knife comes with 3 blades and by default, none of the blades are attached so you have to unscrew the knife and add the blade to the knife which is fairly simple. I'd always wondered why Stanley knifes always rattled but now I know this is due to the extra blades in the case and not the attached blade itself.
So far, I'm very pleased with my purchase very sturdy, sharp and safe.

The knife body is so robust the changeable blade (which is strong enough on its own) will break before anything else. Even for that to happen you seriously need to be putting two hands of tremendous pressure on the cutting blade. As far as I’m concerned, you cannot buy a more robust blade holder than this.
The cutting blade protrudes about an inch from the body which gives plenty of depth for cutting. I have personally used it to cut anything from UPVC plastic, roofing felt, to wood beading.
The only negative thing I can say about this knife is you need a screwdriver to open the casing to change the blade. Given this knife was first designed decades ago I have to ask why there isn’t an easier way to do this nowadays.
The blades used with this knife are Stanley 1992 ( https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0001IWB0I )
POSITIVE THINGS:
• Strong design
• Comes with 3 spare heavy duty blades (in body of knife).
• Easy to grip and therefore cut
• Storage for five blades inside body
NEGATIVE THINGS:
• To change blades you need a screwdriver
