Jack Schwager is a managing director and principal of The Fortune Group, an alternative asset management firm regulated in the UK and the United States. Schwager is the Senior Portfolio manager for Fortune's Market Wizards Funds of Funds, a broadly diversified series of institutional hedge fund portfolios. He also serves on the board of Fortune's research affiliate Global Fund Analysis, a leading source of independent hedge fund research. His prior experience includes 22 years as the director of futures research for some of Wall Street's leading firms and 10 years as the co-principal of a commodity trading advisory firm.

Mr. Schwager is perhaps best known as the author of the best-selling Market Wizards (1989), and the equally popular The New Market Wizards (1992). A third volume in this series, Stock Market Wizards, published by HarperCollins, was released in early 2001. Mr. Schwager's first book, A Complete Guide to the Futures Markets, which was published in 1984, is considered to be one of the classic reference works in the field. More than a decade later he revised and expanded this original work into the three-volume series, Schwager on Futures, consisting of the following titles: Fundamental Analysis (1995), Technical Analysis (1996), and Managed Trading: Myths and Truths (1996). He is also the author of Getting Started in Technical Analysis (1999), which is part of John Wiley's popular Getting Started series.

Mr. Schwager is a frequent seminar speaker and has lectured on a range of analytical topics with particular focus on the characteristics of great traders, hedge fund investment, performance measurement, technical analysis, and trading system evaluation. He holds a B.A. in Economics from Brooklyn College and an M.A. in Economics from Brown University.

This is a brilliant book.
Written from interviews with people who actually play the markets.
Doubtful it will make you instantly rich but if you understand how professionals think there’s no reason you can’t adapt your thinking to think like them.
Only just writing this review although I bought it a few years ago.

This book like his other 2 books, delves into the nitty gritty of how and why super traders are successful at their craft. These traders view the world differently from us mere mortals, and are generally open to sharing in-depth aspects of their trading styles. Schwager is good at delving into the nuts and bolts of how and why they do what they do, always asking how the "novice trader" can benefit, utilize and make improvements in their own trading accounts. Never being content to just repeat verbatim what these super traders say, Scwager challenges them to elaborate and quantify why they choose one course of action over another.
Apart from being an interesting and easy read, Schwager also discusses the different psychological approaches to trading, such as how traders can incorporate aspects of Neuro Linguistic Training (NLP)into their trading, as well as discussing how the unconscious mind has more of an influence over our conscious mind, than we perhaps realize. Winning and losing at trading, is not always about making great trades, having the wrong mental approach or self-defeating attitude, will bankrupt you just as fast as timing the markets or your trades wrong.

This is an enjoyable book to read - the bulk of it consists of editted interviews with top traders and most of these flow easily. Many of the war (market) stories are interesting and, for those who want them, there are lessons to be learned, even if some of those contradict other parts of the book. This makes the whole somehow less than the sum of the parts. If you are after knowledge there are better books, but if you want something light & fun in the area this is for you.

this book consists of interviews with some of the best traders in the planet (at the time of publication), at the end of the book the author gives an in depth description of what makes a great trader - summarised from his interviews. if you are thinking about becoming a trader, or just want to get a better understanding of a what traders do then i don't know of a better book to read - a really interesting read...
