1,0 av 5 stjärnor I don't know why the author thought that just changing the gender of every single character would work because a lot of the whole Bella dynamic was in her self doubt and faults she saw in herself which means that she is always questioning what Edward sees in her and not feeling good enough for him and I don't think it works ...

As a girl who is interested, romantically, in other girls, it wasn't that much of a surprise when I enjoyed this book far more than the original Twilight. The most obvious reason, I think, would be that Edward is now the female version, Edythe. This meant that, in a pretty natural turn of events, I was more invested in the way that Edythe was described, how Beau felt about her and most importantly, how she made Beau (and the reader) feel, too.

The other part I was quite surprised at, was relating to Beau so much. That’s not to say that he isn’t sometimes a little dramatic, but I’m not ashamed to admit that I was pretty much the same at seventeen, and its only five years later that I’ve realised that. Because of the first-person perspective, it wasn't hard to actually forget sometimes, that he was male, and I found it pretty easy to get along with his thoughts and feelings.

When I first read Twilight, I was at the perfect target age-demographic, and most of all, I didn’t know of my own sexuality. This meant that despite never really being attracted to Edward or being invested in their romance, I thought I ‘loved’ it anyway, getting carried away with the story, I guess. I also struggled, quite heavily, with relating to Bella. I think it was a mix of her moodiness as well as immaturity that put me off, whereas Beau comes across a little more humble, more mature in his actions and relationships, and while he is kind of goofy around Edythe (I mean, who wouldn't be?) I even found that pretty charming and endearing. Much less second-hand embarrassment while reading as him compared to Bella. A ton.
While I can see the ending throwing a few people (and I am sad that Beau wasn’t able to reconcile with those around him like Bella did) I still thought it was a good way to wrap up the novel without Meyer trudging through all of the following events within the series, once again.

I’d say, pretty confidently that I’d recommend this version of the story to someone 100% of the time over the original. While I hold an (admittedly guilty) pleasure over the Twilight series, even to this day, I still enjoyed Life and Death – especially Edythe and Beau – ten times more than I did Edward and Bella.
