Introduction to Classical and Quantum Computing is for students who want to learn quantum computing beyond a conceptual level, but who lack advanced training in mathematics. The only prerequisite is trigonometry, and mathematics beyond that will be covered, including linear algebra. This book is suitable as a course textbook or for independent study.
The text begins with a significant overview of classical computing, from how they add numbers to their computational limits, and it mirrors many of the quantum computing topics that are covered later. Then, the investigation of quantum computing begins with a single qubit and quantum gates acting on it, first using geometry and elementary algebra, and later using linear algebra. Computer algebra systems are utilized, and code for both Mathematica and SageMath is included. After one qubit, multi-qubit systems are covered, including how quantum computers add numbers, universal gate sets, and error correction. After this, readers learn how to program quantum circuits on actual quantum processors using IBM Quantum Experience. Afterward, entanglement and quantum protocols are explored. Finally, quantum algorithms are examined, culminating in Shor's algorithm for factoring. Abundant use of the Quirk quantum simulator is used throughout. Finally, a short discussion of careers in quantum computing is provided, along with some possible technical topics to learn next.

Great intro

I'm in my 3rd year of Computer Science and bought the book in preparation for a Quantum Computing class. Overall very impressed by the book. I only wish the careers section had some more effort put into it. Classic Academics...

Well done!

Concepts are broken down to their elemenary constituents and explained very well through digestable examples and exercises. All in all it is a rather simple read (depending on your physics experience) and thus the author hits his target directly. On multiple occasions the reader is referred to deeper literature.
Overall I enjoyed the book a lot and it helped me understand concepts which were always a little bit unclear due to some untold simple assumptions.
Highly recommend!

Dobra pozycja

Incredible

I only have a semester of calc 1, and no linear algebra experience, much of the math in this book was a first encounter for me. The author is *incredibly* good at explaining concepts in a way that is easy to read while still clear, thorough, and professional. The exercises are great and have solutions. The pictures are clear.
I have done 2 semesters of CS major core courses: this book's beginning chapter on classic CS theory taught more about that than anything I've encountered in college thus far (the attention given to classical logic gates and the practice exercises are exceptional).
Overall, thrilled by this book. Definitely feel that I will be competent to check out Mike and Ike upon finishing.
