"Settle back and savor this one. Patrick Lee has an intense brand of storytelling. He's a most welcome addition to the genre. The real deal. I look forward to reading more from him."--Steve Berry, New York Times bestselling author of The Emperor's Tomb
"WOW! Double Wow! Starkly original, Ghost Country by Patrick Lee will make Asimov and Heinlein cheer with the angels. The techno-thriller meets Sci-Fi, and the result is mind-blowing. Makes Tom Clancy look like the slowest child in the class."--Stephen Coonts, New York Times bestselling author
For decades, inexplicable technology has passed into our world through the top secret anomaly called the Breach.
The latest device can punch a hole into the future . . .
What Paige Campbell saw when she opened a door into seventy years from now scared the hell out of her. She and her Tangent colleagues brought their terrible discovery to the President--and were met with a hail of automatic gunfire after leaving the White House. Only Paige survived.
Fearing a terrifying personal destiny revealed to him from the other side of the Breach, Travis Chase abandoned Tangent . . . and Paige Campbell. Now he must rescue her--because Paige knows tomorrow's world is desolate and dead, a ghost country scattered with the bones of billions. And Doomsday will dawn in just four short months . . . unless they can find the answers buried in the ruins to come.
But once they cross the nightmare border into Ghost Country, they might never find their way back . . .

I agree with other reviewers that the stimulus for the conspiracy and what it was going to achieve doesn't quite stack up and the protagonists of the conspiracy were quite poorly fleshed out. It was always going to be tough to match the uniqueness of The Breach, but Ghost Country comes pretty darn close despite the flimsiness of the conspiracy.
The cliffhanger form The Breach is touched on during Ghost Country and looks like playing a part in the final book of the trilogy.
I have to say all 3 novels are stunningly good. Great plots and real edge of seat drama. The twists and reveals are worth the price alone.
I just wish he'd write more of the same. Have just visited his website and see a new novel is due in 2014. Not the same threads or characters but still sounds good, apparently the film rights are sold as well.
I add that last point because I think the Breach trilogy would make one or more great movies....
If you buy these books don't start reading unless you have plenty of time to spare.
With good, but not overly cloying, characters - their actions are unpredicable (in a good way)and their motivations have depth.
The previous story 'The Breach' spent some time introducing the two main characters and their world - but was a fine story in its own right and I hope there will be a further books in this series.
The plot & ideas could have been 'run of the mill' if they weren't so well handled by the author.
